    Product Description

This product has been discontinued and replaced by ecobee4.

This is the Home Kit Enabled version of EB-STATe3-02. Works with Alexa.

Ordinary thermostats read the temperature in only one room, but are supposed to deliver comfort in all rooms. Ecobee3 remote sensors deliver the right temperature in the rooms that matter most.

Featuring a 3.5" full-color LCD touchscreen, 320 x 480 pixel display with highly intuitive iconography and controls, just like your smartphone. Reads temperature in multiple locations solving for uneven temperatures in the rooms that matter most.

The ecobee3 is smart, intuitively understanding when to turn on your heating/cooling based on your home's unique energy profile, the weather, and thousands of other data points.

The ecobee3 is energy efficient, sensing when anyone's home and which rooms are occupied. Energy and money are not wasted when you're not around to enjoy ecobee's unique temperature control. ecobee3 even gives you recommendations on how to save more based on your usage.

The ecobee3 is easy to use, with schedule and a 5-day forecast built right in to a large and easy-to-understand touchscreen.

    The ecobee3 is a necessity.

    Best Thermostat on the Market!
This thermostat is exactly what I was looking for. It provides options. I don't want the thermostat to anticipate when to start so I can set it up to change when I schedule the change. It also has options for control of the second stage of heat which I wanted. The remote sensors work well as do the motion sensing. The available data is interesting and useful. I like the ability to easily export CSV data. The unit was easy to set up and my wife was thrilled to get rid of the old Hunter Programmable thermostat which required multiple entries to change the temperature. I don't think there is anything else I could ask for.

    Previous Nest owner convert
We have now had both nest and ecobee3. We bought the nest for a rental unit and i swapped it out to bring with us to several homes until we purchased. We sold our first home and the nest was requested as part of the sale so we left it. I re-evaluated the choices on the market and decided the ecobee fit our needs better (1901, 3 story Victorian house with single stage HVAC) and boy am I glad we made the switch! The 'mini-bee', as we have come to call it, (the remote sensor) is in our room in the second story and with the home, away, and sleep schedules it ensures that our room stays comfortable during sleep. If you're anything like me this feature is worth it's weight in gold. The user interface may not be 100% up to the task to take on nest but it is for sure no slouch.

Works great, and can't wait for future enhancements
A great product overall. Not quite 5 stars in my mind, but I think it will eventually get there through software updates and feature enhancements. I'd really like to see customization options for different features, such as the amount of time it takes for Smart Home to kick in or how rapidly the average temperature adjusts based on participating sensors.

Personally, we had a bit of a rough installation that required significant back and forth with Ecobee customer service. I opted for self-installation and had to use the PEK. The PEK is very easy to use. The Ecobee is also fairly easy to install--assuming you don't have any issues with your existing HVAC wiring. After installing the Ecobee the first time, the AC and furnace were running simultaneously. Generally Ecobee has great customer service (knowledgeable people, decent wait times, and extended hours, including weekend availability), but on this occasion they fell a bit short. Unfortunately they misdiagnosed the problem. Instead of realizing that the AC and furnace may have been running simultaneously, we were told that our AC was under-performing. After two subsequent installation attempts (another one by me that involved even more extensive conversations with Ecobee and one by an HVAC professional), I opted to open up the drywall a bit, trim our HVAC wire, and relocate the thermostat slightly. That fixed the problem, and we were finally up and running.

Since we've had the product installed and functioning properly, its been great. Programming the Ecobee is very intuitive and far superior to traditional programmable thermostats. We did have some issues early on with one sensor disconnecting and reconnecting a few times, but that has gone away. The sensors are great for homes that experience disparate temperatures. Specific sensors can be used for different times and heat/cool modes (Home / Away / Sleep) too, which is great. The iPhone app is also great and very convenient. There is very minimal lag between making a change on the app and having it pushed to the thermostat. The Ecobee and its user interface are both very aesthetically pleasing. I would not hesitate to recommend this product to anyone!.

    These are great
Works very well with a lot of flexibility. I have these installed now on 3 systems in our house along with four sensors in additional rooms. I have not had the issues with the main thermostat being hot - in fact, I placed a few of the remote sensors chosen randomly next to it for several hours as well as a digital thermometer to test this. All the ecobee products settled into the same reading after a while and the digital thermometer differed by a degree - not enough to matter as long as all the ecobee units agree, the system will work as it should.

There are a lot of features and it is important to read the web site to understand how they work. For example, while a sensor may indicate "unoccupied" during Sleep, it does revert to an Away Setting:
    - Smart Home/Away feature does not activate during Sleep period. Smart Home/Away activates during Home and Away periods based on occupancy detection.
    - In the Sleep period when no motion is detected, Follow Me defaults to averaging temperature across the selected sensors in your network. However, if any motion is detected, Follow Me will use this information to heat/cool appropriate rooms

So it goes with many of the features - read up to understand how they work so you get the most out of it.

So far I am happy with it - we have rooms that are nowhere near the thermostat and now they are more comfortable when we are in them without us having to constantly adjust for it. It also is helping to know which registers my need to be more closed or opened to better balance things out. I also like being able to change a setting from my iphone, ipad, or browser - pretty cool stuff.

Install is easy enough - I had to use the included PEK on two systems and not on the 3rd. I did have some wiring questions and ecobee support was knowledgeable and helpful, easy and quick to reach.

    Excellent Quality and Support!
I bought the ecobee3 about 1 month ago.
Because of the prior installation the wiring was in bad shape.
I emailed ecobee for some support and advice.
They called me back and reviewed with me the steps to get it right.
I'm a DIY guy, so I was not reluctant to replace the wiring, it took me probably less than an hour to have a fully functional installation (counting the rewiring and installation of the ecobee3).
I was a bit anxious about the HomeKit setup, which turned out to be as easy as 1-2-3!
The remote sensor is this little thing that adds extra value to the product. It's not mandatory to use it, but it adds even more comfort to your place.
Once registered to their website you have a dashboard that is easy to understand and use and you can see the status of your ecobee3 and home environmental statistics from anywhere in the world, even without a smartphone or tablet, absolutely flawless!
I can't wait to see what future firmware upgrades of the ecobee3 will bring, even if to be honest it's already fully loaded!
It's not a surprise I give 5 stars for a product and a support of this quality!

    Ecobee3
So far I like it: aesthetically designed, convenient, easy to use, great tech support. Wish there ware more compatibility details before buying. Have zoned a/c and had to buy two ecobee thermostats End up paying almost $200 for installation as was not possible to do it ourselves.
Now when it is all set up, like it very much!

    Better than Nest? It depends!
Almost all reviews will compare the ecobee3 to the Nest thermostat, and rightly so. That's it main competitor. I've owned both and for now the ecobee remains on my wall. Why? Two words, remote sensors.
Anyone who owns a Nest and works from home, like I do, will tell you that unless you're constantly walking in front of that thing, eventually it'll move to Away mode and stay there until you walk past it. Walk back to you office and the game starts again...Away mode. At that point, depending on the season, you're either roasting or freezing again.
The ecobee3 takes care of that with the remote sensors. Place one in the room you're in, and the ecobee not only knows you're there, but monitors the temperature in that room also.....as long as it stays connected (more on that later). The sensors also allow for a more comfortable home o a whole since you could setup the system to take an average of the temperatures from the sensors. This is a feature Nest could have "borrowed" a long time ago, and have yet to do so. I'd still be using the Nest if it had sensors.
Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with the Nest, the ability to switch to Away mode when it does sense anyone around is a great feature and is available on the ecobee3 also. My situation is unique, so if remote sensing is not important to you, either of these thermostats will work just fine. The prices are similar, and so the setup. So aside from remote sensors what else is different?
The other big difference is build quality. Here I'll have to give it to Nest. That thing looks and feels like a piece of jewelry compared to the ecobee3. The design is better and materials are more premium. The Nest has an aluminum ring with glass LCD screen. The ecobee, all plastic! Don't get me wrong, it doesn't look bad, but the Nest is MUCH nicer. If that type of thing matters to you, get the Nest. But remember, it's a thermostat. A smart one even. So how many times are you going to be touching that thing? To be honest, the ecobee looks just fine on the wall. It's not a learning thermostat like the Nest either, but unlike the Nest it's easier to set schedules. In fact the predefined schedules should work just fine for most homes.
If you're into the smart home movement, you'll be happy with either thermostat, also. They both have great integration with other systems, but of course Nest works better with its own family of products. If you have a couple Neat Protects and a couple Nest/Dropcams, you might be happier with Nest thermostat. But ecobee works well with other connected devices too and there's a great user community. The thermostat really functions great.... except.....
Remember that "as long as it stays connected" comment earlier when talking about the remote sensor. Well that's one little annoyance with the sensors. Depending on how far they are from the thermostat, they could lose contact every now and then. I have 3 sensors, one in the upstairs loft, one I. The master bedroom and one in the office. All of these rooms are upstairs, with the thermostat living downstairs. The one in the loft is the closest to the thermostat and never disconnects, but I've had drops from the other two. My office sensor, which sits furthest away, dropped every hour the first time I installed the unit. I seemed to have fix the issue (mostly) by moving the sensor to another location in the room. We live in a 2000 sqft home, so I can imagine that someone with a really large home or one with an unusual layout could get frustrated really quickly by all the disconnects.
Not sure why Ecobee does not allow the sensors to connect directly to your wifi, rather than only to the thermostat. I would prefer that, even if it meant having to plug the sensors in. Or maybe have the sensors create a mesh network. As with everything else, I'm sure it's all about cost.

So, in conclusion, the ecobee3 a really good thermostat. If remote sensing is important to you, don't think twice, get it! I don't think you'll be disappointed.

    Unreliable product
As soon as you inbox the ecobee3 be sure to throw it in the trash. Then go shopping and buy a thermostat that works. No matter how you program this product, or how you manually adjust, it has a mind of it's own. Does not keep you comfortable. Does not save you energy. The customer service offers no assistance.
